Oh Social Media
On my mind recently has been the gap between real life and what I (and everyone else) share with you here on the blog or social media. I need to do a Day-In-The-Life post so that I can really show what my daily life looks like because it's mostly pretty messy. I love looking at pretty blogs and reading uplifting things as much as the next gal does - it's natural. And I actually wouldn't really want to see a shift to an Instagram feed full of messy houses or parenting fails. I think the reason we read and follow people are because we want to be inspired in a way that we can connect with. But unfortunately when you spend too much time in that media world - like I do - you start to feel like you are the only one who fights with their husband or leaves dirty dishes on the table for a full 24 hours.
If I showed you three day's worth of my life, you could see one day with a clean house, one day where orders were all caught up, and one day where I took my kids somewhere fun. I try really hard to keep our life balanced, but that usually means everything gets balanced out for the week. I can't get all things done in a day, but in a week I can have several days where I go to bed with the house picked up, several different days where I blogged and shipped orders, and other days where I took my kids to the park or to a friend's house. I usually have to pick one theme for my day, and the rest of life kind of falls apart until the next day. If we were less busy, I think life would be a little tidier, but I love what we do.
I do share outfit photos where I'm in full makeup and well coordinated because I want to give outfit ideas and share my personal style. I Instagram cute snacks we make for preschool or days when we make play dough because it's important to me to do those things as a mom. My husband and I go on a date every so often and because it is so rare, it's worth sharing on social. But none of those things happen everyday. Or even every week. So in case you think our life ever looks perfect or unattainable, I'm dispelling the myth. I hope I do an okay job at keeping it real and that most of you are reading this thinking, "I know she's normal. She definitely doesn't look too perfect!" And if that is the case, mission accomplished.
Do you ever get frustrated by social media? How do you deal with it?
PS - You can find the winner of the Fall Favorites giveaway here. The winner of the N&S Graphic Sweatshirt can be found here. Sorry I'm terrible at announcing these giveaway winners! I usually email the winner and forget to do a big announcement.
PPS - I don't drink coffee - it's Pero in the mug.
