Younique 3D Fiber Mascara Tutorial and Giveaway
If you have seen my boys, especially in real life, you know what AMAZING eyelashes they have. All of my kids have the longest, thickest, and blackest lashes, and they get compliments on them all the time. However, they did not get them from me. My lashes are almost nonexistent. I always wear mascara and in the last year I have started wearing false lashes frequently. I love the look of thick lashes, so when April offered to send me Younique 3D Fiber Mascara I jumped at the chance. I mean who isn't always on the lookout for a better mascara?
3D Fiber Mascara is definitely different than any mascara I have tried. It comes in two tubes: one is transplanting gel and the other is natural fibers. You apply the mascara in a three-step process which I describe below and then wash it off with your makeup at the end of the day. I think it takes some scrubbing, but it does wash off. The mascara should last about three months of daily wear. I wasn't sure what to expect because it does cost more than my drugstore tube of mascara, but I am willing to spend extra on the right product, so I wanted to give it a try.
The first time I used it, the mascara went on okay, but honestly it was pretty clumpy and my lashes didn't look natural. Still, they were longer and more full - I could tell that they were better than my Covergirl Lashblast results, so I was willing to keep trying. I think it took about two weeks to figure it out. Every day I tried different tricks, and each day my lashes were looking better. To help you out, I've made a little video tutorial for applying the mascara with my how-tos using the best tips I've found so far.
(You will have to excuse the orientation of the video - my husband helped me, and I have a lot to learn about filming video tutorials! I do want to do more of them so bear with me as I figure it out!)
- To apply the mascara you first apply the transplanting gel. It is black and goes on similar to normal mascara. I focus applying the gel to the base of my lashes and the outer half of my eye. I do not apply it to my lower lashes.
- After I coat my lashes on the first eye with the gel, I apply the fibers. The fibers look like little fuzzy particles of felt. As you apply them with a wand to your lashes they lengthen and stick to the gel. It is really surprising when you try it for the first time. It usually takes me about two dips in the fiber, and it can clump, so beware. I then let those fibers dry while I apply gel and fiber to the other eye.
- After both eyes have a coat of each on them, I follow up with a coat of gel again on each eye. This helps seal in the fibers and harden them to look like mascara. Sometimes I will go back and do a second coat of fibers and gel on any areas that didn't get long enough, but now that I have practiced for a few weeks I don't have to as often. I do like to put a little of my normal mascara on my lower eyelashes to finish the look.
Overall, I still prefer my false lashes for added volume, length, and the end look, but they can be uncomfortable if applied sloppily, and they get expensive. This 3D mascara has been a great day-to-day alternative to false lashes, and I've had a hard time going back to my Covergirl after using it. I won't say its perfect (although rumor has it there is an improved formula on its way), but it does work. I'd recommend it in a heartbeat as long as you follow my tips and tricks and put in the effort to figure it out!
