Near the end of Summer, we were on a family outing to Lowe's to make a few returns. While Soren was at the returns counter I meandered out to the Lawn and Garden Center to see what was left in the clearance section. (Because I usually kill my plants, I at least try to buy them on clearance!) Lo and behold the rack was full of tiny, dying succulents- remnants of Summer and 75% off. I loaded up my cart and went back to find my family. My husband rolled his eyes and tried to stop me until I told him I felt like I had just returned from a succulent orphanage. I walked away with a warm heart knowing I had saved those babies from certain dehydration.

Now what to do with all of them? They sat in a window sill while I waited for inspiration to strike. And boy did it! Enter Michael's Recollections Glitter and a little Elmer's Spray Adhesive.

I love glitter- it really makes everything more magical and festive. Clearly I also have a soft spot for succulents as well so "frosting" my succulents with glitter was the perfect way to use my plants and decorate for Christmas too!

To begin, find a ventilated spot with a drop cloth and give your plant a good coat of spray adhesive. I wanted the glitter to look like frost so I sprayed the glue from above and the sides, but not the undersides. I only put glue where I wanted the "frost" to stick.

Next sprinkle of the glitter of your choice. I used Michaels Recollections Glitter in Glitz which is an iridescent white, but I think green or blue or even gold could be pretty. I only sprinkled from above and put on a medium to heavy coat. After it dried then I shook off a little of the excess.

The pots also came from Michaels and they fit the tiny plants perfectly. I chose to spray them with Krylon Red Pepper Gloss spray paint, but I think I'd love to see gold or chalkboard paint on them too.

I replanted those little orphans into their freshly painted pots and that was it! They add just the right amount of red, green and sparkle to my kitchen table!

You are probably wondering if the glue or the glitter hurts the plants? Not at all! Mine have been "frosted" for three weeks now and as long as they are getting sun and a little water they are still going strong!

I love mine on my table, but there are so many ways to decorate or gift your sparkling succulents. How much would you love to get one of these little guys as a neighbor gift?? Throw on some decorative Washi tape around the rim and give them to all of your neighbors, friends, or teachers. You will be their new favorite.

Want another idea? Use the pots as place cards at Christmas breakfast, lunch or dinner. Even if you don't use chalkboard paint, you can still write on the pots with chalk or a chalk marker for a cute placeholder and even a gift for guests!

Now that I have found a purpose for my plants and gotten into the glitter- I can't stop. #mustglittereverything
