Women talk a lot about balance and I think there is a reason for it. We all want it and it's hard to achieve. Especially in the time of life that I'm in. If the kids and I look put together and make it somewhere close to on time, you can bet the house isn't clean or picked up. Its very likely to resemble the wreckage of a recent tornado. If I've blogged five days in a row, then N&S has had less of my attention and I haven't worked out not once. It's something I'm always working on.
Blogging/the internet is specifically part of my world where I feel like there is a thin line that I try to walk. And it really is one that can be hard to balance. That is the line of being inspirational and being unattainable.
In the candy coated blogging and Instagram world we all know we see a lot of 'perfect'. There are so many wonderfully talented women in the world who are amazing at taking photographs, styling images and sharing beautiful things. And we all love to follow those accounts and to just take it all in! I love finding new beautiful accounts or blogs that are creative and shockingly talented. ...But I also kinda hate it because sometimes there are no doses of reality in anything some of those pretty accounts publish. So while their picture perfect accounts leave me inspired, I also am kind of left feeling like they have it easier than me. And maybe my chances of being like them are squat because I have four busy kids and I don't have a brand new house and I certainly don't have extra time.
But the opposite isn't really what I'm looking for either. I love following my friends and family on social media and I don't care about how beautiful their photos are. I just love keeping up with them! But if I'm going to go follow a random stranger on Instagram, it won't be someone with a feed full of dark photos of real life, kids in diapers and a messy house. Yes, that may be my current reality, but I don't need heavy dose of it from someone else!
So this is something I'm always thinking about. How to be real and also how to be myself. Myself is someone who is always trying to do more, be better, get better, work harder and strengthen my skills. I love finding the perfect shoes or putting together a perfect outfit. I love styling and designing for N&S and creating beautiful things. I love sharing all of that. Myself is also someone who can't keep up with her housework, overcame an eating disorder, endured a miscarriage, forgets to brush her teeth and swears at her husband.
So if I'm doing a good job, then you can be here reading OLM and get inspiration for an outfit or pin a hair tutorial and also feel like you see yourself in me in the best possible way. I think we all need more "I thought it was just me" and "me too!" moments here on the internet. If we did I think we would have a lot more "I do can that too!" moments as well!
