I mentioned yesterday that one of my favorite parts of blog conferences is the classes. I love learning new skills, tips and information about blogging and running a business. And I especially love leaving with a big old to-do list.

This year at ALT I felt like I came home with a lot of take-aways and a to do list that will take me several months to get through. I loved all of the classes, but one class that applies to even non-bloggers was the class on Instagram. I've listed some of my takeaways below.

Instagram
- Always watch for cool backgrounds and stop to use them. Whether that means a great brick wall or a flowering tree. Backgrounds make or break many photos
- Use the grids on Instagram to pick your photos composition.
-Engage with people on Instagram. Ask questions, make comments, and interact.
-Only use natural light.
-Take photos either straight on or from above.
-Use Iconosquare to look at stats and see the best time to post photos.
- Don't be afraid to delete photos
- Great editing apps include: Darkroom, Cortex Camera, Snapseed, Squareready, InstaFit, Diptic, and PicTapGo
-Find people who fit in your IG community by looking at hashtags, the Explore page and those who like and comment on your photos.

I also took classes on pitching your brand to the media, Adobe Illustrator, using analytics on all platforms and more. Although it was overwhelming in the midst of it- overall I came away inspired and with lots of new ideas.

What have you done recently to get inspired in your field? Do you find time to take extra classes or read up on something new?
