While I was growing up here in Missouri, I never thought I would stick around. I wanted to get out - not in like a big city way, but I just wanted to move away to try different things and marry someone from somewhere else. That all happened when I left for college in Utah and then married someone from Las Vegas.

As you know, we moved to Seattle after college, and that was when I really got homesick for the first time. I struggled a lot with the unfamiliar and not living near family, especially after Easton was born. I flew home as often as I could, and then the unexpected happened - my husband and I both felt like we needed to look for a job and house in Kansas City (near my family). We started looking, and within a month, both a house and a job fell into our laps. We moved right then and there and have been in Missouri for 3.5 years now.

I still pinch myself about it sometimes. I just can't believe that I live here, where I grew up, with my three kids and my husband. And apparently I am a small town girl, because I love it here. Kansas City and the suburb we live in are not really that small, but it's smaller than most big cities and it's still the midwest (which is made up of small towns!). Things are conservative here, families are valued, it's creative, the schools are great, and I think things will just continue to get better. This place is on its way up, and I think we may be here to stay.
