Christmas Hydrangea Wreath- Tutorial

As I pulled out the Christmas decorations this year I found that we were going to need a new wreath for the front door. The holly wreath that we have had for years was expired after being smashed and tossed around the storage room too many times. I loved my Fall wreath so much that I decided to replicate it in Christmas colors. I love how it turned out and feel cheery every time I pull up to the house! 

Ready to make your own? I bought all of my supplies at Micheal's Craft. You will need an 18" grapevine wreath, nine fake hydrangeas (3 in each color), wire cutters, and hot glue. 

Start by removing the stems from each flower with your wire cutters. You won't want to leave much stem on the flower bud, just enough to glue into the wreath form.  Pull all of the leaves off of the stems and save them as well.

 You can see more instructions and photos in my Fall wreath tutorial, but basically you lay out the flowers in the pattern you want. Then use hot glue on what is left of the flower stem and shove it in between the vines of the wreath until secure. I actually used an industrial glue gun which worked well because it got so hot, but a normal gun will work. And you might not burn a giant hole in your wrist like I did.

After you have the flowers on, lay out the leaves behind the flowers on the inside and outside of the wreath. Use the hot glue to place them as well. Be liberal with the glue and clean up the strings that get left.

Try hanging it up on the door and add an extra leave or two if needed- otherwise you are done! I considered adding a Christmas bow as well for a little extra cheer. That would look great too!
