Fabric Scrap Bunting Tutorial - Nursery Decor DIY

Fabric scrap bunting tutorial- easy project to make to match any room or nursery\

As I was decorating my nursery I went back and forth about including a bunting or a banner. I had some green pennant banners from a previous project that almost worked, but not quite. I finally decided to throw them out and put together this fabric scrap bunting that used a lot of scraps from other nursery projects. It ended up being an easy piece of decor that pulled in many of the prints, patterns and colors from other parts of the room. There are plenty of tutorials online for this project, but here is a basic run down of how I put mine together.

I first gathered together all of the scrap fabric that I thought would work together. Then I cut it into strips that were around 1-2 inches wide and 30-32 inches long. None of them were cut to an exact size and all of the edges were rough.

Then I folded each scrap in half and cut some twine to tie the fabric onto.

I tied each piece of fabric on the same way by looping the ends through the middle of the scrap as pictured.

I pulled each piece tight and randomly tied each scrap on so that the colors and prints were dispersed. The key to the look I wanted was using a lot of plain cream muslin fabric to tone down the other prints and colors. I used twice as many cream muslin scraps as the other colors. After I tied on as many scraps as I liked, I hung it with push pins in the corner above the rocking chair. At that point I went in and trimmed the scraps to my desired length. I wanted them to vary in length and trimming after I hung it helped me see how long I wanted the longest scraps to hang.

And now you can see the finished project!! I love the look of the scrappy fabric in this rustic and Western nursery. It was exactly what that corner needed. It was easy, cheap and you can make it to match any room you choose.
