DIY Leather Elbow Patches- Hexagon

I posted a few weeks ago that I am in love with hexagons right now! The honeycomb trend is so refreshing and when I started this project, it seemed only natural to use it. I have a few patch job projects coming up on the blog and this one has been on my list forever!
To add elbow patches to your favorite cardigan or sweater you will only need a few supplies and about 30 minutes.

Supplies:

2 oz leather pieces large enough for desired size

Fabric glue

Embroidery thread/needle

1. To start, print a hexagon in the size that works for your cardigan or sweater. Cut it out as a pattern. Mine was 2.75”x3.25”. (I had Soren cut mine using my cutting mats and it got way too intense and precise for my methods. I do believe that my pattern has EXACTLY 150 degree angles at every point.) Trace your pattern on your leather and use a rotary cutter to cut it cleanly.



2. Next spread fabric glue on the back of each piece of leather and place it on the garment while wearing it. This will likely take the help of someone else.





3. Let it dry for a bit and then hand stitch around the edge with doubled embroidery thread. This took the longest time because of how thick the needle was going through the leather.

And voila! You will love your new elbow patches- especially the shape!
