DIY Floral Patched Jeans

So I might be a little into patches these days- even if I am patching things that don’t NEED a patch yet. I patched elbows last week and I’m at it again this week. These floral patched jeans knocked my socks off and that I had to have a pair. I immediately knew just the pair of maternity pants to makeover.
Last time I was pregnant, I had not made the switch to skinny jeans so all of my previous pants were boot cut. Here is a before shot.

I had to skinnify them first. They still ended up more like a loose skinny/straight leg pant, but that was the look I was going for. You can find plenty of tutorials online for turning boot cuts into skinny jeans.

Then I cut squares and rectangles out of two different floral fabrics that I love and started piecing them together. I tried laying them out in several different lay outs and layers. Once I picked my placement I used a layer of fabric glue to set them in their place. To create a finished look I hand stitched around each patch with either red or white thread. This was definitely the hardest and most tedious part of the project.

The great part about this project is that you can add more patches, more layers, and more hand stitching until you achieve the look you want. I do think the edges of the patches will fray as they are worn a little more, but its part of the look! I love how they turned out and can’t wait to wear them all Spring!
