6 Gifts I Gave Myself at 37
As I complete another year around the sun, I’ve been looking back on what I’ve accomplished or how I’ve changed this year. It’s been a rewarding year, a challenging year and a year of full-blown adulthood. I think I’ve grown more as a leader and a parent than ever this year and I’m proud of how far I’ve come. If I’m not careful I tend to look at all of the things that haven’t changed or where I haven’t arrived yet, and that’s not a place I want to stay. Today, as I turn 38, I want to share 6 gifts that I have given myself this year. These are six changes or accomplishments that I have achieved that were gifts to myself. I’m better or happier for them. And most of them I wish I had done sooner!
Drinking greens daily. Nutrition might have been my major, but as a mom and an entreprenuer, I’m just not the healthiest. I am always trying to eat healthier, but consistently drinking greens all year has noticeably improved my digestion and my energy. I drink AG1 (it’s my favorite tasting green) first thing in the morning in just some cold water. I will often eat something later in the morning, but at least I’m starting on an empty stomach with a good amount of water and nutrition. This is not sponsored, it just works.
2. TSA Pre-Check. This one was on my list for at least 3-4 years. I knew I needed to do it, but taking time to go to the office and fill out the paperwork was an obstacle. This year I finally made an appointment online for Soren and I and made sure we kept it. The rewards have been innumerable. I am so much less stressed traveling, especially with kids. Kids can go with you on your pre-check until they are 18, so it was definitely worth it. I’m grateful to myself every time I fly.
3. Vericose veins treatment. This was also something I had put off for a long time. I knew it was going to hurt to some degree, so I put it off until last fall. But I finally made an appointment and kept going until the treatment was done. It took about 3-4 sessions and some hurt, others not so much. The results look so good and my restless leg syndrome has gone away. I’m so glad I finally got it done!
4. Three new piercings. This one was really just for fun, but I’ve loved adding the extra earrings to my stacks. I got a snake bite (pictured) with two holes next to each other and then more recently I got a cartilige piercing on the other ear. It’s still very asymetrical and overall means I’ve got 9 holes.
5. Last minute girls trip to Paris. I have documented this trip in other posts, but I nearly didn’t take it. At the time it was presented I didn’t feel like it made sense or that I deserved it. I’m so glad Soren and my friends encouraged me to take the trip. It was such a magical couple of days and the memories were forever. I’m so glad I said yes!
6. Permission to change my hair. This one was easy and hard. I’ve been a short haired, ombre gal for years. Years. But this year I had the itch to change it up again and opted to go dark and longer. I dyed it all a dark brown and have started keeping my extensions longer. Next week I’m going to go even longer. My hair doesn’t grow much on it’s own and I’ve always been known for short hair, so changing it felt a little scary. But the response has been so great and I really love it myself. I’m so glad I gave myself permission to make a change!
Overall, it’s been another year of experiences and evolution. I’ve never been one to sit still, so I’m excited to see what 38 brings. The opportunities are endless!
XO,
Kilee
